This evening I am out in the Palm Savannah again, the last time for a week. I hope my friends are doing well with their backpacks, so that I do not have to worry about them next week. It’s a very special atmosphere out here today. There is not the slightest wind right now. The sea is as calm as I haven’t seen it since I have been here. A good sign for the boat trip tomorrow. It’s around 6 o’clock and the sun has set already. Try to imagine this: you amongst palm trees, a couple of hundred metres down the sea, a calm sea without any waves pretty much, the sky above you clear, but some clouds that look like sheep on the horizon, and then the last sun rays that lighten these clouds from below in the most beautiful of orange and red you can imagine.
Today was a special day because everything was due to be ready for the boat trip tomorrow morning. So I packed my barrel in the afternoon, trying to leave as much as possible on Round to not have to quarantine everything again. You know, it’s such a weird thing. On Round Island you walk around with your boots every day. They get dirty and seeds of different weeds stick to them. But you simply do not have to care. If you want to take them to Round Island however, not a single tiny seed must be hidden anywhere. It is really a huge effort that is taken to keep exotic species out of the haven Round Island. 4 of the 7 reptile species you only find on this rocky outcrop, a hump somewhere out in the Indian Ocean, and nowhere else in the world.
