You wouldn't believe me but I was in desperate need of a chillout session by the time we left LA. It's a tough job travelling and that... Anyway Fiji was the place to spend a couple of weeks to energize again. We arrived at the airport with nothing planned. The idea was to just find a campsite (since we had just bought a tent in LA), Fiji is expenisve fullstop and the tent idea was to save money. We later found out why the tent we had bougt was so cheap. It said 2man tent, but really it didn't allow for much more than one person.

We headed out to the Yasawa islands pretty rapid as there wasn't much on the main island despite it being much better for my budget. The yasawa islands are a hit to the budget. However they were beautiful and a good place to relax. The downside being having to sleep in our "tent", and getting bitten to death by mosquitos and sandflies. We did manage to sneak into the dorms most nights though to get a decent nights sleep.

In total we visited 4 of the Yasawa islands, 3 of which were really relaxing, didn't exert myself much, bit of fishing and snorkelling. Went night snorkelling and spear fishing which was good fun, apparently we saw a shark but I think I must have been readjusting my mask at the surface at the time and missed out. Typical.. We managed to save a lot of money during the day but definitly made up for it paying off bar tabs we accumulated each night. The last island we checked out was called beachcomber, the infamous "party island", most people seem to disagree with me but I found it a right dissapointment. The island was tiny and beautiful, you could walk round it in 10 minutes, and was just one resort, but it was only known for its apparent party scene which was absolute crap. It wasn't much fun sharing 120 bed dorm either. 90% of people on the island appeared to be british aswell, more brits there then back home. I have heard good stories from that island, but maybe we just went at the wrong time or something.

The locals seemed friendly especially when they wanted you in their shops. It was cool hanging out with a few locals drinking cava and stuff. Cava is the local drink, it isnt alcoholic but causes hallucinagenic effects or something, basically gets you stoned. You can see the effects when you look at a local in the eyes! Its legal and apparently the queens tried it so it must be ok, but not exactly my thing, it tasted like muddy water mixed with petrol.

We spent the last few days on the main island before flying to New zealand. We sort of accidently got the dates of the flights wrong, and realised we'd be staying in Fiji a few mnore days just before we were on our way to the airport, but still I couldnt complain!
