The next stop on our trip was to another well known tourist stop Philip island. We spent only 2 nights here again because it was really cold, although this did have it's advantages because this is usually a really busy tourist area and you have to book ahead but there wasn't that many people there so made the reason we were there easier. The main reason that we went to the island was to see the famous little blue penguins which come up off the beach in there hundreds bless them, they are only 30 cm tall. You go down to see them at around 6 ish at night so you have to wrap up warm and there were still quite alot of people there so we would of hated to go there in the summer. After they come in on the beach and walk up into the bushes where there nests are so you get to walk along the board walk and get a real good look at them, this was fairly expensive but well worth it.

We also went to the Koala conservation area which we found really good because unlike some of the santuarys you have to walk round and spot them up in the trees we took about an hour and a half and spotted 16 so were really pleased. There is also certain areas with raised board walks so you get to see them up close.

Willsons Promotory was our next stop again just for a night because we wanted to slowly make our way further up north to some more warmth. We went to the National park there which was really nice, we climbed the mountain there which was about a 7 km return trip and found it a hell of alot easier than Kota Kinabalu in Borneo.
We left at around 5 ish, again when it's starting to get dark, and were really surprised to see 2 massive wombats(which look like giant guinea pigs crossed with a small bear) and 2 small wombats as well as 2 big kangeroos graising on a grassy patch on the way out, that was really cool to see.

We parked up in a rest area for the night hoping not to get moved on and just crashed in the car, trying to cook sausages by torch light was also abit of a challenge. The car was alot more comfortable than we expected.

The next night was spent in another rest area which this time was a little further into some woods which Jan was'n't too happy about this at first because of how dark it was but once another couple pulled up and got a fire going she was slightly more settled(we bought a book /map of all the free camp sites and rest ares in Oz).

Again the next day we set off and headed further up the coast and couldn't help but stop off at a cheese factory for some free tasting along the way. Well we ended up chatting to a local who told us of his favourite national park camping spots and of a local who sells award winning oysters(best in Oz for the last 6 years) and we ended up going in a completely different direction to the way which we were going and off we went to try our first oysters, they were alot tastier that we expected but i think Jan preferred them to me, but we will defiately try them again.

The National park which he sent us to was fantasic and well set up for camping, everybody had there own separate areas and parking spaces with special fire areas and all fire wood supplied for free.It really was great and we had a wicked night and sat infront of the camp fire, so much so that we went and bought some sauages and mashmellows and afew beers and stayed another few nights. The sights worked out about 3 pound a night so were really cheap. As we sat round the fire cooking our sausages on sticks and drinking beer a nosey possum just strolled by, that was cool.During the days we walked about and spotted the wallabys and pretty birds. The only down side was the rain.

Now we had the taste for camping at national park we spent our next night at Pebble beach.Again this was a little further up the coast and at last we were out of Melbourne. We set up the tent and went for a stroll down by the beach only to find ourselves in the middle of 22 kangeroos grazing on the grass, they are so cool we love em.

Booderee National park
Our next stop was at jervis bay, after afew nights here we decided that possums were'nt that cute any more because although they are really nice to see in the wild, when 3 or 4 of them are trying to steal your dinner when your starving hungry slightly cold and huddled round a camp fire trying to get warm they become abit of a pain in the arse.We also encountered a nosey massive kangeroo on his own checking out our car while we were fending off the bloody possums and at one point looked like he was going to try and break in it.The next day we went for a drive and wondered down the beach when we spotted about 8-10 bottle nosed dolphins just swimming around really close to shore, now that was cool and made Jans morning. In the afternoon we went to another beach with pure white sand where i tryed my hand at fishing in the sun while Jan laughed at me and read Peter kays book.Needless to say we didn't eat fish that night but i did get a couple of bites,so thats a start at least.
