5-12-07 Sat. 8:00 Rostock Haupbahnhof(main train station)

Just got on train to go to some village up North and listening to Sanctus Reals Face of Love, so Im feeling good. Im still nervous about making it on my own in the train stations and trying to figure out where to go.

Yesterday was another busy day. I visited an elementary school and sat in some classrooms. I really wanted to go outside with the students for recess so I could play football(soccer) with them. After the school visit we stopped in a mall and ate lunch at a Turkish Kabob place in the mall which was really good and similar to a Greek gyro. I think it was 3 Euro to fill me up good. After lunch we went to Franz Oberlander´s to hear him lecture about the German school systems. Then we met some older German students that were part of the first Rostock exchange in 2001. It was like a school reunion and was a good time. We didn´t leave Franz´s until like 18:00(6pm). I then quickly stopped at Maria´s to get things to go out for night and stay at Antje´s flat. I stay at Antje´s since Maria and Norman will be gone so I need somebody to wake me up. We went to the MoMo bar and I had a Rostocker Pils and a jagermeister shot. I met Chris and Julie who are very cool. Julie actually knows Drew and Aaron because they stayed with her when in Germany last summer. It was so exciting and crazy telling her that Drew is my cousin. Very good times. I´ve been loving it here. People are nice and there is always something going on. Maybe I will study German at the university next semester.

23:00(11:00pm)

At Antje´s flat. Maria called Franzs´ phone while we were at the beer house eating lunch. She called to let me know that her parents would not be picking me up and I would go out to her village on Wed. instead. It actually made it easier for me because I had no clue what I needed to take out there. So today we went to smaller towns by trains and saw an old church in Bad Doberman and then a cool beach resort area where the G8 conference is held and President Bush, Condeleeza Rice and other important people have stayed and will be staying. The G8 this summer is held on my birthday with a huge concert and I think U2 will be playing. I may have to return here for it because Antje could get me a ticket. The 3rd train we travelled on was built in 1882 just like the Hill City, South Dakota train. I stayed on the outside part to take in the experience even more. I saw a deer in the woods and noticed they are much smaller than American deer. I could have jumped off that train and put a leash on that deer and walk it around Rostock like all the dogs the Germans have. After the church and tours we ate at the beer house and I had 2 pretzels and a bier. Then we walked on a long pier over the Baltic Sea and I picked up 2 Rostocker bottles to carry along and drink whenever. I headed back to a bar to watch Bundesliga football matches on the big screen. Our Molli train left at 4:30pm to get back to Rostock. I then went with Henrike, Danika, Keisha and Molly to Henrike´s moms place for dinner since Maria and Norman would not be home this evening either. The dinner at Henrike´s moms was fantastic. Michel, Henrike´s boyfriend kept giving me beer and shots. I tried Czech beer and herbal liquer shots better than Jagermeister. The meal was a huge slab of pork/ham a Schloes-something(mushed potatoe with a breaded thing inside?) and then of course sauerkraut much better than American. Dessert was vanilla pudding with strawberries. It was so fun hanging out with Henrike´s mom, I could tell she was having a good time. She gave me gifts of Polish vodka and stuffed a 20 Euro bill in my pocket before I left. Michel and I watched football match highlights and then a show about European countries competing against eachother with bands/singers like American Idol in a way. A good night for me and was emotional leaving Henrike´s mom for some reason because she was so hospitable and loved our company. When Henrike drove us home I couldn´t help but shed a tear or two for how blessed and thankful I am for this experience of meeting great people.

Next entry: Berlin only 1 more day
