We left Sydney and drove to Port Macquarie, this town was founded in 1821 as a penal settlement for convicts that found Sydney Cove to easy, so for Oz standards it has quite a bit of history. We arrived there in the dark again, these early dark nights are a pain, especially when you are on the road. We had a drive around to suss out a good place to park up later on. We found a nice quiet beach front car park at Shelly beach nature reserve so kept this in mind whilst we went to get some tea. We ended up at the Panthers RSL club which was OK and got a reasonably cheap meal and a beer. They also had a book fare on so we got some books which only cost $2 each. We then went back to Shelly Beach to get our heads down, I think the car park was a bit of a couples place though as there were lots of comings and goings through out the evening then Stu started winding me up saying it was a dogging car park, that was it then my pj's were up to my neck and tight round my ankles!!!

The next morning we went into the main part of the town and it was really pretty. There were little craft markets on along the quayside so we had a wander round them and got some brekfast from a stall. We then began our drive to Byron Bay.

Next entry: On the ale again with Nicola and Paul
