Sen benoo !
The two weeks Mongolia are already over… The next couple days we’ll be travelling back to Ulaanbatar and then to Beijing. We’re gonna spend two days more in China and then head down to Thailand for our debrief.
Mongolia was great. We were amazed by the variety of the weather – we had sunshine (short-sleeves-temperatures), rain, storm, thunder and SNOW! Not everyone was excited for the white blessing but most of our team really enjoyed it. And for Sarah, our Australian friend, it was the first time to see real snow..!
Again we had many different opportunities to serve the people here. For the first time we could help with practical work. The church here has a mercy ministry that prepares food for poor kids and elderlies. Our duty was to prepare the ground for planting vegies and later on planting beets, carots, onions and potatoes.
We also helped the YWAM-base to clean up the community and had a great baseworship with them. Jaimie did some teaching on discipleship there and also in a youth group where we performed some dramas, too.
In Erdenet where we stayed they have a youth café called Eternal Springs. We spent some time there, helping out with English classes or just hanging out with the youth, playing games or talking. One night we even presented our home countries and run a cultural night. From singing in Swiss German to a virtual tour through the US, playing hockey on the table like the Canadians, enjoying the beautiful landscape of Australia and listening to a real Scottish poem – it was a great cross-cultural experience. Go team international!
The first Sunday we went to the Jesus Assembly church. One week later we had the opportunity to preach there and in another church near the YWAM-base. We also performed some dramas and prayed for people.
Our drama performance reached almost perfection last week at an evangelistic meeting where we had a stage. The audience was enjoying Andreas’ card tricks and Laura’s and Sarah’s speeches, our introduction game and we even had the chance to pray with about eleven people afterwards who wanted to accept Jesus in their lifes. Praise the Lord!
We also spent some great hours at a disabled children’s school and did a program there. It was fun to play with them, sing (they loved the motions) and to see them being amazed by Andreas’ colouring book that changes the colours when you rub off colour from your clothes and throw it at it.
One evening we went out to the countryside to meet a family who lives in the traditional nomadic ger (tent). On the way out there our car got stuck and we had to push and pull and thought of our friends on the african roads… But we finally got there and tasted different specialities like Milktea (some loved it, most hated it…), fresh homemade Yoghurt and butter and Ezgi. Then we had the chance to milk some cows. Well, milk is almost exaggerated… We got out some drops, yes. After dinner we sang some songs and shared testimonies and one woman gave her life to Jesus.
One of the doughters of this family is a teacher in a kindergarten called Rainbow. We spent two days there, running a program for the kids while the other half of the team taught the teachers about different aspects of a good character. The kids were so cute, we enjoyed them a lot.
Besides teaching a worship band and joining cell groups we also helped out with english classes in the internet café where Jeremy spent his hours working for the school. The owner of this café took us to a Turkish restaurant where we had great food. Other places weren’t that exciting but we’re still alive and had enough to eat
One interesting thing about Mongolia is that they drive on the right side of the street but have their driving wheels on the right or on the left side. It’s about half half… Strange.
Well, that’s it for the moment. Have a great time and be blessed!
