In the last week or so I've been visiting old friends and have a friend from Indiapolis visiting me. It's been great to catch up with some of the people I met last year and have a good friend visiting.
The visiting all started last week when I stopped by my old neighborhood. I had been wanting to stop by to see my friends in the old neighborhood for quite a while and I evenbrought books and things for the children. I just hadn't had time for a proper visit until now.
I went directly up to the good ol' 4th floor... happy I wasn't carryign water or groceries, and visited my neighbors. Teh girls were as cute as ever. We sat and chatted for a bit and caught up on how the winter went. The oldest son will be graduating soon so we talked about what univerisities he might attend. I then headed to another niehgbor's house for a bit. It was great to see some of the neighbors again and catch up.
This last weekend I went to Voseh, a village I did research in last fall. I hadn't told the family ahead of time that I was coming (as I had lost their phone number). They were suprised, but they weren't up to much so it didn't disrupt their lives too much. In fact, the big highlight of the visit was herding cows with the guys. Basicaly, every family has one or two cows, maybe a goat or some sheep and so after school the guys all take their sheep up to graze. They all hang out and watch them together. Mostof the time is just talking, horseplay, etc..
On Monday, A friend of our's from our Church in Indianapolis stopped by to visit. He's heading on a work trip to Ukraine and thought that he should stop by for a few days while he was on this side of the ocean. On Moday we just stayed around town sine he had had a long 30 hours or so of travel, but made a full day of it. We saw the central park, rode teh ferris wheel, went swimmming, visied a few cafes, and ended the evening with a kebab dinner near the fountain. Today we went to the fortress at Hissor, which is only a few miles out of town and we explored there and went to a hot springs there. Tomorrow should be a little low key as we are just heading to the market and the Varzob river gorge to lounge on topchons by the pool.
