Well I’m home. The end of the program went by very quickly. Some of the highlights from April include:
Trip to the local cannery in Puerto San Carlos Scallop field exercise, where we snorkeled for scallops and then learned about the scallop industry and process of preparing them Trip to the open air dump Seeing a rattlesnake while collecting osprey nest data Two turtle monitoring trips Our last camping trip to Requeson, where we went snorkeling and saw brightly colored fish, rhodoliths, and sargassum seaweed
We also had finals and presented our directed research projects for the class and then for the community. The turnout for the community presentations wasn’t as large as we had hoped, but I think that those who did attend enjoyed the presentations. And, after my group’s presentation one of the women handed us a note asking if she could help out with future research. Hearing her interest in our research made me feel that the project that we had worked on all semester really mattered and wasn’t just some school assignment. Overall, I think this was an excellent program. I had many amazing experiences and met some very creative and wonderful people. However, it’s good to be home where things are so green!
