After an early start on the Kiwi bus, our first proper stop is Mercury Bay. We head to the top of Maungawhau (a volcano) to see the beautiful view of Auckland and beyond. After this, we attempt to head for a motorway before the bus smokes and finally brakes down. Following a quick telephone call to the Kiwi Experience head office, we change buses and make our way to the motorway again.
We stop off to see some lovely sites which includes Cathedral Cove - a beautiful cave on the beach and Hot Water Beach where you can dig a hole in the sand and bathe in the hot water. Unfortunately, we arrived too late to do this due to the bus braking down earlier on.
We arrive at Turtle Cove hostel in time for some home cooked spaghetti bolognaise and garlic bread. We spend some time getting to know our fellow Kiwi bus travelers and meet a nice girl Jo who is from Nottingham. Having just finished seeing Australia herself, we spend the evening sharing stories.
Turtle Cove hostel has just been renovated and our twin bedded hut is perfect. Since leaving Australia, the two of us have found it hard to sleep and that evening, we decide to get our heads down early. Unfortunately, we didn't do the Paddys proud that night...it was St Patrick' Day and we were tucked up in bed by 10pm.
Next stop...Rotorua x
