On Monday 9th we travelled the hour and a half from Caraz to the town of Huaraz - a major tourist destination in the heart of the snowcapped mountains of the Cordillera Blanca.

WeŽd planned to take a tour to see some large plants and a glacier (sounds riveting!) but, due to a two-day strike/protest by public workers, no tours have been running! Yesterday (the first day of the protest) we were having breakfast outside in a quiet plaza when we were quickly ushered indoors and the doors locked as the crowd passed by! No shops were open at all so it was a quiet day spent on the roof of the hostal!

Last night all was back to normal, although some places were boarding up ready for todays festivities(?) and the riot police were out this morning! Hopefully weŽll get on a tour tomorrow.

Next entry: Which end next?
