What can I say about Vegas?! You have to see it to believe it and as much as I had always wanted to go there I couldn't believe it when I saw it. We were there for 3 nights and I could have spent a week there.
We stayed in the rather old and cheesy Circus Circus but being poor backpackers we had to stay in the cheapest place we could. It actually was fine, nice big room and all the usual facilites. It just wasn't as classy and 'wow' as some of the newer hotels.
So, what did we do? The first day we spent shopping, probably spent far too much but there is the most amazing outlet mall where everything is so cheap. We also had to buy a camera after having broken ours karting in NZ!
In the eve we went to have a look at all the free shows that the hotels put on starting with the musical fountains at the Bellagio. It was really impressive. We stayed for 2 displays and the fountain display changed with the different song - very impressive and really beautiful.
Next it was on to the volcano at the Mirage which imitates an erupting volcano, pretty good also. The sirens at Treasure Island was an interesting Pirate show with semi-clad female dancers so Phil was impressed!
The Venentian and Ceasars Palace were something else with the inside of the hotel decked out to look like Venice, with real canals and a Roman Street. Even the ceiling is made to look like sky!
Didn't really do any gambling as even though it was mid week and there are so many hotels you can't believe they are all busy, the low bets tables were always full.
