After work today, we headed to the cigar factory and cultural museum. I didn't know making and smoking cigars was such a science. I went in with my professor, Marcia, and some others to purchase a box of cigars (I only purchased one, but when I went to give Marcia more money, she said I can afford it more than you can...too sweet.) It was really interesting to watch them make the cigars. One man had worked there for 20+ years, I think. They are allowed to smoke as many cigars as they desire. All of it is done by hand... Then we went to the cultural museum, and learned a little about the history of the Carribean and of the Dominincan Republic. The culture is an infusion of English, French, Spanish, African, Indian and other cultures. There was some pretty cool artwork that I wanted to buy, but obviously couldn't since it was part of the exhibit. Plus, I couldn't fit it under my shirt :) I did purchase a CD so hopefully it is some great music!
The gua-gua drivers are starting to recognize us and know that we are the Americans here on a mission trip, which is so cool because they are so gracious. They look at us and say "ILAC?" (pronounced ).
