So, my Easter Break just started last Friday. I have three weeks off and do not start exams until May 9th. The only reason I have to return to Edinburgh is that I have two roller hockey tournaments. One in St.Andrew's and then the British Nationals in Wales.
My break started off with an unexpected surprise. I was supposed to play St. Andrew's on Monday - but unfortunately plans feel through. My friend from Seattle, Connor, and his Dad were supposed to play with me but we had to back out at the last minute. Anyway, when Connor's Dad was flying from Seattle to Edinburgh he was sitting beside a man who worked for Microsoft. Coincidentally, Connor's Dad has clients at Microsoft, so they shared a few mutual friends. At the end of it all, he invited Connor's Dad to play with him at Gleneagles, his home course just outside of Edinburgh. For those unfamiliar, Gleneagles is one of the premiere Scottish golf course (not links, but parkland) and has hosted the British Open and will host the Ryder Cup in 2014.
All in all, I got invited along to play Gleneagles for free - minus the cost of rentals, which ran me $100 (a bit ridiculous, but still worth it). The course was amazing - and I'm sure would be even better if it wasn't March. It was also empty, so we sailed through and played 10 holes on the King's course and another 9 on the Queen's course. Overall, can't complain when you get to play one of the most exclusive courses in the UK. Initiation is only $250,000 and annual dues about $30,000 - USD that is.
Tomorrow I leave for Milan to visit my friend Chris Boyce and a few other Queen's people. From there, I travel with Marc Richardson and Chris Dart (Queen's friend) to Florence then Rome. On the 5th it's back to Milan from Rome and onto Nice, France with Chris Boyce. We will spend a few days in Nice, chill on the beach, and make day trips to Cannes (home of the Cannes Film Festival), and Monte Carlo, Monaco.
After that it's along the South of France to Barcelona, Spain to meet up again with more Queen's people. I don't have a return flight booked but should be back in Edinburgh between April 13 and 16.
Talk to you then!
