Well I emerge from Mallorca a little darker than when I arrived. We got into Palma de Mallorca on Thursday early afternoon. From there we headed to our hotel and had a little time to recoup and take a siesta. Afterwards we hiked, yes thats right hiked up a mountain without warning to the top to go to the Castillo Bellver, which was absolutely spectacular. It is unique because it is actually circular. My Frommer's book describes the castle like this: Erected in 1309, this hilltop round castle was once the summer palace of tghe kings of Mallorca. The castle, which was a fortress with a doubt moat, is well preserved and now houses the Museu Municipal, which is devoted to archaeological objects and old coins. It's really the view from here, however, that is the chief attraction. In fact, the name, Bellver means "beautiful view". So that is the story on the castle. It was very pretty and the views were amazing. We were even able to watch the sunset from there. And I must say the hike back down was much better than the hike up!
