| | | Sydney to Port Macquarie in a Campervan!!!! | | | | | Hello!!
We have travelled a fair bit up the east coast since we were last on this page. Over the past 4 days we have made it from Sydney to Port Macquarie stopping off in 3 places in between. First stop was Lake Macquarie which was beautiful. We stayed at our first wee site right next to the lake and spent the evening watching the sunset and listening to the pelicans and black swans. Next morning we set off again and headed towards Nelson Bay. We stayed in Anna Bay for the night which had the longest beach we have seen so far - it seemed to go for miles - so long that we couldn't see the end of it. It had huge sand dunes which made it look like it just headed off into the desert. On the beach were weird little jelly things with long blue tails which we later learned (after I had been stung by one) were 'Blue Bottles' apparently a very dangerous jelly fish. Well I'm still here so I must have got off lightly! Next we headed to Hallidays Point. On the way climbed up the hill to a lookout point which had a man made tower at the top (yikes - don't look down) 360 degree views of pure white sandy beaches and crystal clear waters - Amazing!
Hallidays point has a beautiful beach but 6ft waves come into the shore which made it impossible to swim but Kirstin and I being the children that we are, played in the waves anyway and filled our pockets with sand.
Next we were on to Port Macquarie where we are right now. Really nice town and lots of stuff to do. Weather here has been rubbish so not much chance for sunset cruises etc etc. The campsite we are on is right next to the beach (again!) and all along the pathway to the beach there are big rocks that people have painted. Really cool - we've taken pics so will post them up. We even saw dolphins next to the sea wall in the harbour - our first sighting so far!!!
We went to the Koala Hospital this morning. There were so many sad stories of koalas being caught in bush fires, being chased by dogs and being run over. But a lot of success stories of lots being released back into the wild. They have some that are long term residents due to circumstances or old age and they are looked after in 5 star koala accommodation! Ok so now I shall be working at the zoo in the morning and the koala hospital in the afternoon.
We head to Coffs Harbour tommorrow - so will be back to fill you in!! Pictures are yet to be put up as it takes a while but they will be there soon!
