One week of stories

Hello everyone,

I hope that you are all doing well. I'm sorry that it was has taken me so long to write. I've been in the UK now for over a week and in Bath for a week today but I'm dating this journal back to Friday so I can write about what I did on Saturday and Sunday separately. My first two days were chaotic so I didn't really have much time or easy access to a computer. My cousin wanted to make the most our time with her and her family (after all I haven't seen her in 24 years). She lives in Eastbourne with her family and they own a small hotel. Eastbourne is in East Sussex on the south coast of England. It's beachy and beautiful. I wish I could say more but to be honest my time in Eastbourne was too short. Like I said my cousin wanted to make the most our time, we ended up doing other things such as driving to Brighton and Hastings. Some of you may know Hastings from the Battle of Hastings in 1066 or as a fishing port. I had fish and chips in Hastings and it was awesome. I'm not a fish and chips person but I must say I'm glad that I tried it. It wasn't served on newspaper though (it was served on brown paper so it wasn't the full experience that I had heard about). I also tried cockle (I think that's what it's called). Whatever it was it looked funky. Tiny little things that tasted like mussels or at least that's the closest thing that I can relate it to.

On Sunday, last week I said farewell to my family and met Jessica at Paddington station. They had Paddington Bears at the station (a little aside that may be of interest). My cousin was worried about leaving me, I felt like I was in grade one again on the first day of school. I survived, Jessica arrived within the hour. It was so nice to see a familiar face. We took the train to Bath and chatted to keep each other awake as we were both battling jet lag. When we arrived in Bath it was raining and like cheesy tourists we posed for pictures at the train station. We got to the university exhausted as we were on a wild goose chase trying to find our accomodations. We found it eventually and settled in.

The week of school was enlightening, intense, challenging, exhausting but overall amazing. The professors (who prefer to be called tutors) are phenomenal and the other students are great I know that I'm going to learn immensely from them. I'm really impressed with the program and I'm so thrilled to be in school again. Please remind me of this when I start whining about my first research paper due in June.

I didn't see much last week other than my room and classroom as the school days are long. I usually start at 8:45am and we're not done until 6:30pm. Sometimes in the evenings there are activities for the students so I didn't have much time to do anything but focus on school which is fine. After all that's why I'm here. All the being said I don't have any interesting stories but for those that would like to learn more about what program and what I learned this week I'd be happy to chat with you as I learn from conversations and I want to keep the knowledge fresh. This will also help me focus as it's easy to forget I'm in school when I'm not attending classes daily.

Take care everyone.

Marie
