Ok, so we know that we haven't updated this in a while and we know that most of you will know that at the moment we are not in Thailand (!) but since we're a bit behind, we thought we had better start from where we left off!!
After leaving Laos, we went back to Ao Nang for a couple of weeks and then decided to take a boat to the island of Ko Lanta which is about 2 hours away from Ao Nang. We spent 4 nights on Ko Lanta in really nice accommodation. The beach was fantastic, it went on for what seemed like miles in both directions. After a day of relaxing and sunbathing we took a trip in a speed boat for the day, to a small island called Ko Rock. This island had the best snorkelling we had done so far. Lots of Nemos, several others from the film (!), parrot fish and loads of other really colourful, big and small fish. You can feed the fish with bread but we forgot to bring any with us and fed the fish our fingers instead, what a weird sensation!! There were hundreds of fish circling us and nibbling our fingers, bet now they have turned into human flesh eating monster fish and it's all our fault! Yikes! Not only were there amazing water creatures - when we came on land, there was a HUGE monitor lizard skulking around looking for it's female partner. Beautiful lizard but pretty scary when you are trying to film it and it comes running straight for you. Another fab day out on a Thailand tour!
We left Ko Lanta, wishing we had booked more nights on the island and headed back to Ao Nang for the last 5 nights in Thailand. We bummed around for most of the time but we did eventually make it to the Phi Phi islands! We had been looking forward to this trip for so long and to be honest, ended up coming back pretty disappointed. The snorkelling wasn't nearly as good as Ko Rock and when we arrived in Maya bay (where the film 'The Beach' was filmed) there where thousands and thousands of other people there - was to be expected really but I guess you have a vision in your head of pure white sands with no one else on it!! There was alot of open water snorkelling on this particular trip and many speed boats stop at the same time. As we were snorkelling at one particular open water place, a speed boat cruised right into the middle of all the people snorkelling and nearly killed me - thanks to Kirstin I am here to tell the tale! She had to holler and shout as I was busy exploring and the other snorkellers had moved out of the way just in time. Anyway, as you can tell I am fine much to some peoples dissappointment I am sure - yes Peter Fog Horn is still alive.
Ok so thats about it for Thailand, what a superb time was had and we will definitely go back again. There are many things we'd do again, some we wish we had got round to doing and some we will definitely not do again!! See you all in Sydney!!!
