Ended the tour in Uyuni, and boarded a bus to La Paz, which was supposed to be an 8 hour journey. 13 hours later we arrived. So here we are exploring the city of La Paz and enjoying its indigenous and extremely ethnic culture. The streets are congested with vendors and women known as cholitas who wear large skirts, shawls woven of brightly colored fabric, a top hat that barely covers the top of their head, and carry baskets full of "street food". It's a unique experience, completely different culture from what I have ever seen. We are staying with a guy from the US, who has been living here for 2 years working on a bamboo project with some local artisans. It's our first experience of www.couchsurfing.com and has been a huge success. (for those of you who don't know what it is, it's a network of residents of foreign countries who offer there home to travelers who are passing through- completely free!) Gerard, the owner of the house, actually left for two weeks, so we have the place to ourselves. He took me out to a local club called Ojo de Agua, and I got to learn the traditional dances of the Cholita women. It was so much fun! I love getting to experience the parts of the culture that not all tourists see.
