After a 10 hour bus journey we arrived in Penang. Terry (our tour leader) took us to an Indian restaurant for dinner. I think this was the nicest meal I've had throughout the whole trip. The food was delicious and the people in Malaysia eat curry with their hands so that was an interesting experience! It was served on banana leaves instead of plates too. We walked around chinatown and then went to a bar. The drinks here are pretty expensive compared to Thailand.
The next day most of our tour group went to a temple in the morning but I didn't really feel like going so I took a walk around Chinatown and Little India which both had really good, cheap, authentic food. I met up with the rest of our group and we went to the big mall to do some shopping :) Me and Chris ended up going to the cinema (how very cultural)! We later met our group at the food night market and ate some very strange looking food.
On monday we took another long bus journey to Cameron Highlands. This was more of a stopover point as there wasn't a great deal to do. We went to the butterfly farm (which I really enjoyed), the strawberry farm and the tea plantation (which is about as exciting as it gets). The butterfly farm was good as it had loads of weird scorpians, snakes and of course butterflys. We had dinner at a restaurant where you cook your own meat and noodles in a kind of fondue/soup pot. It was a really good experience but not very practical as there are about 12 people trying to cook their food at once and you don't always get that much to eat. It was still nice though and I got to try crab meat, jellyfish and catfish.
Yet again another long bus journey to Kuala Lumpur on tuesday. This is one of my favourite cities so far. We went round the markets in the afternoon which reminded me of the Pat Pong market in Bangkok. In the evening me Chris Viv and Kirsty found a great little Indian place with super cheap food! We met up with everyone and went to a Reggae bar where every night is ladies night and the drinks are half as cheap for women as they are for men. Can't complain! On weds me Chris Viv Bex and Sophie had a very busy day and managed to pack in all the major sights and momuments into one day. We went to the National History Museum, up the Kuala Lumpur tower (the 4th tallest communications tower in the world), the Petronus twin towers (the tallest twin towers in the world) and Batu Caves. The caves were good except that to get into thenm we had to walk up 272 steep stairs! Saw lots of monkeys though. To top it off we went to Times Square, which is a massive mall with an indoor theme park at the top! It had a rollercoaster, dodgems and all the usual rides but all indoors.
We spent our last day in Malaysia in a place called Meleka. If I said there wasn't much to do in Cameron Highlands there certainly isn't much to do here! It rained anyway so all we did was walk around a bit. In the evening we went for a lovely, but very expensive, meal. The live entertainment was really good though, he reminded us of Roy De Wired back in Notts! The waiter was mental but made us laugh by giving us a rendition of Vanilla Ice's 'Ice Ice Baby'!
Next stop Singapore . . . . . .
