Bula (hello)!
We finally arrived in Fiji this morning, feeling like death as I had very little sleep on the plane! But it is very hot here, about 34 degrees! Very humid too.
Anyway better update you with the weekends activities....
Sat night... the bar crawl... or should I say teh oddest/worst bar crawl I have even been on. It was that bad it was good! It was led by a guy from the hostel called Damon, who is the slowest/dimmest/weirdest (need I go on) guy ever... and he was leading a bar crawl! but Dave, Josh, Hayley, Cass and some others we knew were also out. And I'm not being mean! Its just true!
The first bar we went to was half outside and tiny. There was a guy on a guitar singing in the corner, all very local! We got $1 double shots of banana liqure topped with Baileys, which were well nice! We stayed there a little too long, but when we moved on... damon wanted to go to this karioki place! OH MY GOD! I HATE karioki, and this was just super cheesy. When we walked in, some guy was giving it all he had... we couldn't stop laughing! Cass, Hayley, Josh and me refused point blank to sing (well... like to keep the vocal talents hidden!) but Jem went up... and pleasently surprised me! Shes a really good singer! Go Jem go!
One of the quieter lads that was out surprised us by getting up to do a duet of Like a Virgin... ripping off his jumper and swinging it around his head!!
Damon was sat there really enjoying it... just picture a guy sat listening to classical music-all content looking! well that was him!
Eventually we said we were going to a club, us ladies went on and the lads said they'd join later. Didn't think they would, but they did! After some crazy bum wiggling to Beyonce and smooth grooving to Justin... it was time to head home! We had to be up early to check out.
Sunday... got up early to check out (ZzZZzZZZzZZ) we caught a bus to go and visit Pearl Harbour. It took about an hour and a half to get there and then it was a 2 hour wait to see a small movie and go across the river on a boat to see the Arizona that sunk below. We decided not to wait as we had other things planned for the day, although it would have been good to do, many people had said to us they couldn't see the arizona so wasn't worth the wait. We could see the memorial and museum and that was enough.
It was such a sad story though, really made me think and I learned a lot from the museum. Really have a craving to watch the film now though... ok ok... so what if its just another excuse to look at Josh Hartnett!! Yum!
After that we headed to the Ala Moaona Centre which is apparently the third largest shopping centre in the world! It was really nice there, all open air, but contained within a centre.
We grabbed some food... Subway, I had a chicken breast one which we can't get in England... so thats justified... surely??? It was good though!
Then we had a look around some shops, I got a couple of lighter vest tops... so they don't absorb the heat so much (ok... and shows off the tan batter!! he he!!)
Then we got our photos put on CD and headed to the Apple Store to upload them for you all! They had a time limit in there though, which wasn't enough, so we completely blagged more time in there by asking every question under the sun to them! Good job I know something about Macs, they kept getting all technical!
From there we looked round a little more, then headed back to the hostel for a quick change, as we were meeting Chloe and her friend (that has flown out to see her) at a hula dancing show on the beach at sunset.
we were walking up the beach and a little too close to the water... yep, a big wave came in and soaked my jeans! WHHHYYY!! They soon dried though, well I wasn't even going to attempt to unpack the bean (rucsack) to find a new pair!
So we watched the Hula show, which was very calming and, to be honest, the routines were much the same. but great cultural experience. There a a little girl doing it, she must of onlt been about 4, and she was just so sweet!
After that we went to the Seaside Grill, I had stuffed Salmon and New York Steak with salad, galic potatoes and other bits. It was really nice!! Miss having salmon! Chloes friend, Sarah, was really nice, shes also from High Wycombe.
After that we said our goodbyes and headed to the airport on the shuttle bus. Dave was also flying out that night so he was there too.
Got to the airport, and we never know where to check in! Although our tickets are with Quantas we seem to fly with its sister airlines... AA or Air Pacific. So we asked and were told to wait in the AA queue. Waited ther for an hour... was not in the mood for that at all. Then were told we were in the wrong queue, and had to check in at Air Pacific! So we got there eventually.
Guess what... I got searched at security... again! Why?? Because I had an apple in my bag!!!! I know my passprt photo is dodgy... but come on!
The plane was so small, three seats on each side! Tin can!! Tried to get some sleep, but couldn't and got grizzly instead.
Finally we got to Fiji! 12 hours ahead of UK now! They were so heelful at the airport, instantly whisked us off with the agent to sort the booking for our island hopping trip and first nights accommodation. We sorted all that and got a shuttle bus to the hotel. Yeah its a hotel not a hostel! 2 swimming pools, 3 bars, 2 restaurants and good facilities! Although our room is a dorm style it has a lounge area in it!!
We're in a room for 6, there were 2 Danish girls, but think they checked out this morning and a lad from Wales. Poor guy sharing with us! Think he leaves tomorrow though.
So really pleased with the hotel, nice to have a little luxury! We are here for 2 nights then head to the islands. Some of the islands are so basic... no hot water and no electric after 10pm! So not sure they'll have internet or even phones! So might not be able to get in contact for a while! We hopping around for 6 nights.
Oh and my phone doesn't work here! Boooo!
We hopped on a bus into town... the bus didn't have any windows! Good air con though!
Think I'm going to like it here, was really sad to leave Hawaii, absolutley loved it. When I make my first million think I'll buy a house there! he he!
We are off for a swim in a bit, nothing planned for tonight, will see what happens!
Take care and miss you all xxx
