Odd day in Binche and spring break plans

On my walk back to the Institute from the train station, I ran into Bridget, Alex, Matt, and Claude, who invited me to go with them to Binche. I found out the only reason I was invited was because I speak French and Bridget needed to get something for her mom, but didn’t know how to ask for it. If people want to use me, that’s fine with me. We had an interesting train ride to Binche where we were really bored the whole time. We tried to play thumper, but Alex screwed it up. Once in Binche, we realized the town only really exists one day a year, on Mardi Gras. Other than that, no one really lives there, works there, or generally exists there. We tried to go to the famous brewery there, but were told it was closed. We asked to buy some beer to take with us, but apparently the brewery in Binche doesn’t need people to buy things from it. It must be a miracle of the economy, but they didn’t want to sell to us. Instead, we played around in the ruins of a castle for two hours before taking a train home. The train ride home was just as ridiculous as the ride there. We were all peacefully asleep in a car by ourselves and some Belgian guy came in and started playing music really loudly. We asked him to turn it down, but he played like he didn’t know English. This took place the entire ride back to Brussels, for an hour. It was pretty bizarre.

Well, this week, even though it’s Monday, is almost over. We have one more class today and then two days of work. On Thursday we have to pack up our rooms and put our luggage into storage. Thursday night is Alex’s birthday party at the Wink and then we get kicked out of the Institute for a week on Friday morning. Spring break starts Friday. On Saturday Alex and I are taking a plane to Rome for three days. Then we fly to Barcelona on Tuesday night. On Friday morning it’s back to London to meet Katie and Alex’s sister and brother in law. We then come back to Leuven on Sunday the 11th. It should be an awesome, but tiring week. Hopefully I’ll get some sleep in there somewhere. That’s it for now. No more posts until after spring break, when I’ll have a lot to talk about and many pictures to put up.
