Thanks to the prodding of my curious and always Lovely mother I'll put up a little more about Cambodia (though I've only been here a couple of days). The prices are very reasonable. I've got a great one-bedroom with a shared bathroom and I pay $3 US a night. If I stay a couple of weeks the price will drop to $2 US a night. You can get a good meal and a beer for $2-$3 and rent a bike for $1 a day. Bus travel is also inexpensive, $3-$4 to get to the capital in an A/C bus from here. They take Thai Bhat, Riel (the Cambodian currency), and US dollars - which they prefer. Where you can, I'd recommend boat travel because it is usually fastest due to the terrible road conditions. The food is really tasty and not at all like Thai food. Most of the places I've eaten at tone down the spice, but you can get it as hot as you like. On the coast they have a big selection of cheap seafood, everything from tiny clams to crazy looking deep-sea fish. The border crossing was fine for me because I already had a visa. I've heard that they like to charge you a little more if you have to get one at the border. The touts are very persistent and don't believe a word they tell you. Cheers - tanner
