Ladies and gentlemen, the moment we've all been waiting for: I can finally say "I'm in da Ho." Yes, we left Akosombo early without seeing the dam after Lysander developed a 38.4 degree fever (that almost 101 for you American folk). We grabbed a tro-tro to Ho yesterday morning to bring him to a real hospital (which actually turned out to be VERY nice) in the city.
After four or five hours there it was determined that he had a minor case of Typhoid (Enteric Fever), a lovely disease prevalent in unsanitary conditions that is caused by a strain of salmonella. Lu wants to be a doctor, so it makes sense that he decided to completely ignore the doctor's advice and NOT take any antibiotics. Subsequently I told him that he's on his own and I'm not lifting a finger to take care of him until he agrees to take the medicine. We'll see what happens.
So for now we'll rest up till he feels better and then off to the Tafi Atome monkey sanctuary, Tafi Abuipe kente-weaving village, Amedzofe the scenic former German mission town, Mount Afadjato--the tallest in Ghana, Wli Falls--the tallest waterfalls in Ghana, and many other awesome sites in the Volta region. We plan on spending two weeks to a month here so let's see how it goes.
