Island Pace

2007-01-31, Koh Chang, Thailand

The coast has been a nice change of pace from the few days in Bangkok. We've been on a small island off the southeast coast called Koh Chang - which means Elephant Island. The weather has been sunny and cool thanks to the sea breeze. Lots of good food and beach lounging for the most part. We rented scooters and have been buzzing around here and there. A few days ago we took a day trip to the other side of the island and the folks did a jungle ride on an elephant. We also went on a jungle trek a while back - lots of rubber trees, mosquitoes, plants, and a few scary looking spiders. Yesterday we went on a snorkeling trip out to some of the coral reefs off the smaller island in the area. The visability wasn't great but there was still a lot to see. Tomorrow we're heading back to Bangkok were I'll pick up my passport and visas (hopefully) and my folks will split back to Alaska. From there I'm looking at taking a bus back down this way (most likely to Trat) where I'll have a week to explore the eastern coast before my Cambodian visa opens. I don't have access to a usb port at the moment, but if I have time in Bangkok I'll post some photos from Koh Chang. Cheers - tanner
