Back in Sydney!
Byron Bay done and back in lovely Sydney!
First before I say anything of Byron I have to stress that I do not do drugs and am not going to. So don't worry mom and Meeri.
So we stepped out of the bus in Byron and the first smell was pot. Then we saw a Japanese guy with big dread locks carrying a didgeridoo and that was pretty much our first impression of Byron Bay and it didn't really improve from that.
Byron was very relaxed and as the Lonely Planet says Byron really doesn't know if it's hippy or hip. It's a small town with surfers, big time hippies, pot heads and normal people...like us :D
We honestly saw people who were pretty screwed up with weed and just walking around with their indian cotton clothes on and greasy hair laying on their shoulders.
There's this town called Nimbin about 30min from Byron which is pretty much the pot capital of Australia. They say you walk down the street and every second person offers you cookies, brownies of just straight on weed. There is a marijuana museum there and...well, me and Sara thought of doing a day trip there just to see all the freaks but when a guy in Byron asked us if we have acid we thought it's not really worth going all the way to Nimbin to see the freaks when Byron already has them.
Though mom would've loved Byron's food selection. All organic and gluten free! I actually liked the organic and healthy selection they had there. Even the big supermarket Woolworths had a huge health food section.
Byron was very hot, the hostel sucked 'cause it didn't have aircon what so ever, not even a proper fan. I got major head aches there. We were supposed to leave on Thursday but then decided Byron wasn't really the place for us so we left a day early on the night bus. We arrived Sydney Thursday morning 6.30am after a dreadful night on the bus with no sleep and a way too cold aircon.
Friday it was Australia day and the whole city was jammed! WE just walked and walked and should go to bed now cause I'm tired but I had two grande coffees so...
