It’s a wonder Accra’s citizens don’t suffocate on her unremitting blanket of dust and heat. Unlike the cool, crisp nights in Maase, warranting of a sleeping bag, those in Accra sleep stripped to their skivvies and, the lucky ones, pounded by a fan. Let’s just say that Ken has been less hospitable of late, increasing our desire to start the trip already! We plan on getting out of here by Friday the 26th before Accra eats up all of our money!
Yesterday we spent some sticky time in the city running errands, followed by a well deserved dip in the Coco Beach pool. Today we spent even more time in Accra as I exposed Lu to the busier side of the city that he had yet to experience. Between the horse-mounted police, the loud and passionate arguments in the streets, people carrying anything from sacks of onions to SIX big wooden crates on their head, and a market rivaled only by that in Kumasi, I think he really enjoyed it, and even proposed spending more time in the city—I hope not. The plus side to Accra is the enormous amount of walking we do—gotta get our legs in shape for hiking in the Volta! Tomorrow we will spend all day on the beach and in the pool. That’s right, all day. In the night we will pack up our greatly reduced packs (leaving unnecessary and bulky items at Ken’s) and Friday morning we’re off for the east coast. First stop: Ada…
