Once in Frankfurt, we decided to walk around the city. We were told about a flee market across the Main (the river) and we decided to find it. As we were crossing the river, it started to pour. Not just sprinkle, but rain heavily. The wind also blew quite strongly, which only made things worse. The flee market stunk, so we decided to try to find some lunch and wait out the storm. We found a sandwich shop that we thought served bratwurst. Alex ordered a mischbrot to eat in the restaurant. Everyone thought it was pretty funny because a mischbrot is a giant loaf of bread. We walked out dejected and felt like stupid Americans. We finally found a place that serves bratwurst and pretzels, so we ate there.
After lunch, it stopped raining, so we walked around the city to explore a little bit. The cathedral was really nice and really old. Thirteen Holy Roman Emperors were crowned in that cathedral. After the cathedral, we felt it was time to go back. We saw a Holocaust memorial, another church, and the European Central Bank. We took a 3:17 train back to Cologne, but when we got there, we found out the next train to Brussels wasn’t until 7:44. We decided to eat dinner at the Brauhauskeller and then waited for the train. We finally got into Brussels around 10 and back to Leuven around 10:45.
There were a lot of ups and downs to the weekend, but I had a fun time. We are expecting to go back to Germany in the spring when we can see a few more things, like Berlin. Today we are resting and going to watch football at 9. Go Colts. I hate the Patriots.
