So off i went to Bologna with my friend Albana for a few days, mainly to get out of florence for a few days as i had not parted the Florence shores for quiet a while particulary Astor, why Bologna??!! why not it is another beautiful italian town, clean, beautiful weather and is famous for it's food! we arrived and found the Bed and Breakfast straight away... i think i may be actually getting better at the this travelling malarky!!
We walkede around the city for a while, stopping off at a cafe for a bite to eat along the way, Bologna has very distingushing promonards of shops that stretch for streets and streets, it was nice just to walk around and not have a care in the world!
it got to around 7 o'clock and we were both pretty hungry, can't frustrasting though as i have now learnt that no resturants open till 8... bloody italains and there eating patterns!! we both had pizzas, which were ok, but i think the chef forgot to put the toppings on... salami piccante pizza means one slice of salami in il doge resturante... il doge what a great name... anyway after the meal in which Albana decided to paint the white table cloth red with wine we made a sharp exit and went out for a few drinks, Bologna is another big university town and there is one road (via zamboni)inparticular full of bars, mainly irish but they had a good atmosphere! watched Arsenal beat Liverpool 6-3, shots of Tequilla and a few drinks! happy days! another major difference between florence and bologna is gthe price of the things, everything is generally 2 euros cheaper, pizzas 6 euros and beers are 4 euros instead of... well you can work it out!! On the route home we went to check out kasamatta, which looked like a pretty cool, bar/club, it was a cool bar but as it was Tuesday we were the only people there! so they closed early... gutted! i had a bottle of prosecco back at the b and b though so went back and drank that!!
Got up the next day and went to do the last few touristy things before we departed! We walked round all the big piazza's and went into the Basillca di San Petronio to check out the largest zodiac sundial in the world... wow i tell thee!! not!!
We also walked up the two towers, well the tallest one of then, which seemed a good idea at the time but once we started walking up the 498 steps, i realised that it's a long way up and the steps are old and narrow and small, i started shitting bricks to be honest with you!! it was a beautiful view from the top though! quiet strange that it was called the tower of donkeys... god knows why!!!
One final thing to report was the market, especially the fish part, half the fish were still alive, all laying in buckets with no water... now thats fresh!!! and the butcher guy who had a huge knife and was just hacking away the fish spraying blood everywhere!!!!!
