More Excitement

2006-07-10, Lviv, Ukraine

We arrived in Lviv physically and emotionally drained to find a beautiful apartment waiting. The next morning there was a commotion at the front door. On the other side were two men enthusiastically waving a picture of my grandfather as a young man! We finally connected with the family Yaraslava told us about in Hubici. Cousin Yaraslav bundled us up and dashed off to his lovely home and family. The next day we visited patriarch Michael, to meet more of the clan. What wonderful people-so gracious and hospitable! We ended our stay with a cozy meal with Cousins Lesya and Yaraslav.

Because of this unexpected family reunion we did not see much of Lviv. The streets were torn up in preparation for a huge bash in September so the city did not show us its best. However, we did do research in the National Archive, and visit the terrific Museum of Folk Architecture and Folkways nestled in the woods and the lovely Lychakiv Cemetary. I finally saw the thatched roofs and fireplace shelves Grandmom told my mother about when she was little.
