Long overdue

2006-11-18, Essaouira, Morocco

O man I just realized that altho everyone knows where I am, not many of you know anything about how i'm doing, what i'm doing, or anything really at all! sorry!

We've been so busy here in Morocco so far...we've been here almost 2 weeks and I'm finally starting to feel at home here (as much as i can in a strange foreign country)...eventho I do have some measure of homesickeness if you can call it that. I really miss all you lovely people more than my actual home.

We arrived in Casablanca on January 2nd (i think!) and stayed there for 3 days before moving to where we are now...Essaouira. Casa was...interesting. Definately not as romantic as it sounds...having a famous movie named after it. It was qutie smoggy and full of rank smells that I cant say I've experienced ever before! One of the first things you notice is the infestation of cats EVERYWHERE of every color shape and size. Anyway...one really cool thing about Casa was that we got to see the biggest Mosque in Morocco and that was BEAUTIFUL! My favorite experience in Casa was going to the traditional "hamam"...a community bath house! (all women of course!)

So after those first 3 days we took an 8 hour bus ride to Essaouira where we are now. Its a beautiful touristy beach town...clean air and still a lot of cats but definately not as stinky! We've been staying in a very nice apartment and tonight is our çth and last night there. Tomorrow after a French Catholic church service we're moving to a new aparment (with a roof terrace beach view!) which we're pretty excited about! We are really starting to feel like we're doing something here...we've made quite a few friends and even gave away a "book" to one of them today! Tomorrow we get to go to his house for a traditional Moroccan dinner!

So maybe I should make this less confusing and tell you what a typical day in the life of me is like in Morocco!

Each morning (except fridays cause thats our day off) I get up at 6:30 and have some quality time with the "boss upstairs" for about an hour till breakfast time. We have the same breakfast every morning, which is a baguette (only 1 durham = about 10 cents!) with strawberry jam or honey and two mini oranges...the best oranges on the planet! After breakfast the team gets together for an hour of "singing" and "talking to the boss" time...which is always really good. Each day one of us takes a turn sharing a devotional with the group. Then, we set off for town! Quite a few mornings we meet a group of kids on the beach and the boys play soccer with them for a couple of hours. After that we usually go have lunch...followed by q few hours of wandering through the medina and stopping every once in a while to visit our many shop keeper friends and sharing a cup of the best tea you can ever imagine! The other day we had tea with 3 different people! Everyone is SO FRIENDLY here...and it's extra great when you find someone you can speak English with! Then, in the evenings we generally pick up dinner and head back to the apartment for the rest of the night....and wake up the next morning and do it all over again! I have to say I'm not quite tired of it yet tho!

Thanks for all your support everyone and for reading this super long and hopefully not boring blog! You're the best!

I would really love to post some new photos on here soon...but it's hard to do in an internet cafe. That might have to wait till I'm back home!

I love you all! Jess
