I am now in San Cristobal De Las Casas. Yes, I made it out of Puerto Escondido for Christmas. I decided I needed something cultural instead of the millions of parties I am now missing out on.
My last day in Puerto Escondido was a great one to finish the saga off. I met a Mexican guy a couple of days before and he told me he would take me on his boat for free. I didnīt think much of it until he met me at the beach (which I had totally forgotten I agreed too, lucky I was there) and he took some girls from the hostel and I out on his boat. So we are speeding along and all of a sudden he jumps off the boat and into the ocean. We were all wondering what the hell he was doing and then we saw. He was wrestling a huge turtle and brought it onto the boat for us to see. Crazy Mexicans!
After catching a 14hr bus ride to San Cristobal we get to our hostel which is freezing by the way. Tell me again why I left the hot weather! Yesterday we went on tour in a boat through the canyons. We saw a few alligators and monkeys to say the least.
Today we went horse riding to a village called Chemula. Big mistake! I must had eaten something bad yesterday and got my first dose of Mexican belly. I had already paid to go and some people I met yesterday were also going so I pushed myself to go. The saddles were wooden which is bad enough and then the bumping on my stomach was horrible. Got to Chetumel and couldn'tīt walk around and had to catch a bus back to town. I was thanking God I didnīt have to ride the horse back though like the others! Anyway in Chetumel there are traditional Mexicans living there and they keep their own traditions going. In the church there (that I didn't get to see) there are thousands of candles. Apparently it is amazing so I am going to catch the bus back there tomorrow.
