Hi everyone, hope you are all keeping well and not too cold in our wonderful British island? Just to rub it in I am sitting writting this wearing my shorts and bikini top!
Since I wrote to you last time we have had four seasons in one day. We have had days of pouring down rain, cloud sunshine and even snow!!
In 2 weeks my feet have not touched the floor. We have seen pancake rocks and the blow holes. We have visited the famous Franz Joseph & the Foxs Glaciers in the pouring rain. Apparently on a clear day the advancing glaciers will take your breath away but not on the day we went! Never mind Welsh bobble hat on and I can brave anything(including bucket loads of rain) and tramp around for an hour towards a large piece of dirty ice. No really it was beautiful scenery.I think the Fox glacier was the prettiest although I am shocked to find out it was not named after the mint!!
On our way to Wananka we stopped off to see lots of water falls and the blue pools. To get to the blue pools you had to cross a bridge that was made of string and swang as you walked across. NO CAN DO!!! I am such a chicken.
Arrived to yet more rain but more spectacular scenery. This place is wonderful, very laid back with a background of a huge blue lake and mountains covered in snow.
The next day was the highlight of our trip so far to the Milford Sounds. It is stunning. It was used as the backdrop for Lord of the Rings. We arrived in rain and the place was so green and lush, the water falls were bursting from the mountains like pipes. When we got to the top of the Park it was snowing so much that people were having snow ball fights.
We stayed the night on a boat on the sounds and as soon as we stepped on board the sun came out. We were able to go Kayaking and look at the penguins scattered on the rocks. We had a beautiful meal and a right laugh with a group of Americans before retiring to our wee bunks. We even got to see dolphins in the morning.
Next onto Queenstown. It is a beautiful place, the scenory is amazing but it is quite touristy this time of year and has lots of shops, pubs and he hes(Young kids). It is the adrenaline capital of the world with bungy jumps and white water rafting. I went up the cable car which was enough adrenaline for me!
In Dunedin we headed straight for the penguin reserve. It was great they have underground tunnels with viewing holes at eye levels of the penguins so they think that we are little and dont feel threatened. It is their nesting time so we got to see all the babys.
We explored the architecture in Dunedin. (On the way to the Thai restaurant) and sang carols with santa with sunglasses on.
It just doesn't feel like December. (sorry to rub it in again) Oh and incidently i appologise for not sending any Christmas cards this year. (Again)
By now we are getting tired of living out of a suit case and bombing around from place to place and considering i'm a new chilled out person, I can't cope with all the running around.
So we treat ourselves to three days of heaven in Akoroa sunbathing reading our books and MAXIMUM TANAGE. We even ditched the hostels and stayed in a posh motel, crisp white linen sheets. (Yes mum your right you can't beat it), A telly (I havent watched telly in weeks, mind you coronation street is a year behind!) and even better a bath. Not just your standard bath oh no only a blinking Jackuzi!!Hyacynth was home!!!!!!!!!!
Saturday we went Whale watching in Kaikora. The sea was so choppy everyone else was chucking up. Man those waves were big. Anyway we seen one! In fact we seen absoultely amazing massive whales. I had a big smile on my face.
We also visited a seal colony with over 100 seals just lazing on the rocks. I could just sit and watch them all day. They look so much like lukey when they swim I instantly fell in love with them all.
Right I best sign off now i've bored you to death.
All my love
NickX
