Africa is nuts (or should I say bananas?)

What the hell have I got myself into? HAH! I arrived at 9pm to 70 degree heat and 120% humidity. On the plane I met an international law professor from GW, which I found ironic...or maybe a sign. Since Ghana is so religious maybe it's the latter.

My first action in the country was to get ripped off at the money exchange. I was so tired I jsut handed them the first bill I found, a 50, and didn't even count the change or look at the receipt. From there my tact sunk even further as I knowingly paid 5x the typical cab fare purely because I didn't want to argue. I nearly suffocated on my own amazement during that 10 minute ride. Ghana is everything I thought it would be and NOTHING I thought it would be--further explanation is futile. At this point, my shock is still omnipresent but it's fervency ebbs and flows like the tide on Coco Beach.

For today my goals are simple, get to the internet cafe(check!), find something to eat, buy a cell phone and call Dr. Nyako, a Ghanaian friend of my uncle's.

Ghana is a scary place alone in my hotel room, but the more I walk around the more comfortable I become. Mom, don't worry, everyone is very nice and I'm being very careful.

Well, as it is almost noon I suppose it's time for breakfast. Bye for now
