After a couple of very rushed days in Delhi where the only genuine person we met was a confessed alcoholic Bollywood film director named Subhash, who payed for all our beers in Rodeos bar as we watch the cricket, We decided then to head to the mountains. Shimla was were the British top dogs relocated in the summer to get away from the heat of Delhi when they ruled India. 2150 meters above see level it was pretty cold in Hotel YMCA with no central heating and no other guests. Very similar to The Shinning. With a fell of the lake district but with vast views of the Himalayas all around it, its easy to see why the British dudes set up HQ here. Still a bit of a strange place with a Dominos pizza on the high street. Please note there is no restaurant at this branch. Just a takeout/delivery option.
Not a great deal to do in Shimla except visit the Jakhu (Monkey) Temple 2455m. Belived to house the footprints of Hanuman, commander in chief of the monkey army that helped Rama in his struggle against arch demon Ravana. Overall a great place to see the sun set if you don't mind being chased by a load of red arsed monkeys.
