Greeting me at the airport with a flower-lei, Laura & I hopped into her car and battled the traffic that is typical in the main island of Tahiti. From her house it was less than a minute walk to the beach where in the distance the island of Moorea could be clearly seen.
French polynesia is made up of two types of islands - one which remained mountainous (aka high islands) and rather like a jungle in the center, and the other which have sunken to become atolls (aka low islands).
After spending a week or so exploring Tahiti, we set off for Rangiroa, the largest atoll of the Tahitian islands. I fell in love with this place & I would suggest the atolls to anyone looking for great tropical snorkling and sun burning. oh yeah - a word of warning, as i discovered, sun poisoning is not very fun so be careful.
