On Tuesday I made my way from Quito to Riobamba. Riobamba is the main departure point for the spectacular trainride. Unfortunately it didnīt stop raining there all afternoon, so I couldnīt see much of the snowcapped peaks around me, nor did I visit any of the parks as planned.
I stayed in a very nice hostal though and had a nice meal there.
On wednesdaymorning I got up very early in order to be at the train station at 6am. The train would leave at 7am, but I was advised to be there an hour in advance for the best seats. Unfortunmately I still didnīt manage to sit on the right hand side of the train, from where you are supposed to have the best view. Anyway, the trip was great! Sat on a roof of a train with hundreds of other tourists enjoying the views around you. The m,ountains, the villages and the people are amazing! It is the most difficult train ride in the world, which we noticed. We derailed many times, which meant we only returned at 6pm instead of 1pm. But I was sat with a group of 12 Dutch students which kept me entertained.
But because of the delay, I decided to stay in Alausi instead of traveling further south to Cuenca. Alausi is a very small village, so there was nothing to do. i even had trouble finding a decent place to eat, so i had a very early night, which I didnīt mind seeing as I had a very early start as well.
