After a long period in Internet-free places, we are now back online .. Before we wanted to make a move after our last lessons, we wanted to do see some more of Bocas del Toro.
We rented a bicycle, and together with Mandy we tried to cycle to the other end of the Island. But the bicycles hardly deserved their name, they were very bad, in fact they were so bad that Flo gave up and returned to the town (also because the heat was tropical..) . Mandy and I reached Bocas del Drago in the end, but my but was very sore! It appeared that I got screwed by my sadle.. (a screw had been sticking out the sadle and pinched me). We were so hot and sore that we didn't feel cycling back, and we were lucky. At Bocas del Drago's only restaurant was Luz Maria (our Spanish teacher) with her husband (from the dive school), they were there with their boat and were so kind to take us with our bicycles.
The famous local band "the Beach Boys" were performing in the local club, we had a look, the soundsystem was very bad, and very very loud, but the guys seemed to have fun, and brought a carribien interpretation of salsa mixed with calypso which made the people dance, local guys with blonde touristas as well as 65- plussers. When the guys were getting to drunk (equals annoying) we moved to the next place. They had repaired the townhall's bell just the last day before we left, so good timing (but bad timing for the bell, it worked now, only about 20 minutes behind the actual time). The last night was sad goodbyes to our wonderful teachers, some people we got to know well, and in the end we were sitting with a big group at the bar. We didn't sleep at all ourt last night in Bocas because of this and the bell... We had booked a little plane out of Bocas del Toro, but when we arrived at the airport, it looked we were gonna be the only passengers. The plane was a little propellor-plane (even tinier then the ones we had seen flying) which could hold 15 people, it already had 3 passengers, so with the five of us we flew to Panama City.(we wanted quickly to go there, to get our camera fixed and not to have to travel the road twice, the inter-american highway is the main road east-west, and we had planned to travel this road anyway.). We flew under the clouds and had a good view on the country, and saw the Panama-canal from the air. Even Flo (normally affraid of flying) enjoyed this flight.
