When in Rome...

2006-11-06, Sevilla, Spain

Last night I thought Ļwhy donīt I type everything up about Rome right now, and then copy it into the journal when I get to school?Ļ Well the answer is because I typed up 9 pages single spaced... and thatīs a LOT. So Iīm just going to list the highlights and then I can tell all my great stories when I get home because otherwise itīd be a little ridiculous. Even the shorter version will probably end up being slightly long, but here we go.

Wed. We wake up really early (well Kirsten and I woke up, Aniell and Casey had never gone to sleep - it was Halloween) and get to the airport, we get checked in, nap, fly to Milan , hang out in there for a while, eat some good sandwiches, it was a 5 hour layover... played some cards, then flew to rome, were very hungry and tired, found our hostel, ate at a restaurant across the street (very good pasta, of course) and went to bed.

Thurs. Woke up, went to the Coliseum, very cool, went to Palatine Hill and the Forum, also very cool. Found some big buildings, ate lunch, found the Pantheon, bought tickets for an opera (which at that the time I wasnīt too excited for) Thanks to Rick Steves we found one of the best gelaterias in Rome and had some gelato, excellent, found the river and wandered around there for a while, went back to the hostel, took a nap, um, then we went to the Spanish steps, got a little off trackĻ(but not lost) on the way, found those, went to the worlds most elaborate mcDonalds, and thatīs not my opinion, thatīs Rick Stevesī. Then we oh well before that we went to the Trevi Fountain, very beautiful. We headed back to our hostel, got some really good pizza on the way, and went to bed.

Friday. Haha what a day. This is the best story but will be the shortest because itīs better told in person. We went to the Vatican, got into a tour, haha got into the line, practically started a stampede, but got in. Then we were herded through the museum but got to the Sistine Chapel - it was amazing and awesome. Went from there to see St. Peters which was awesome as well. Then..... what, then we went to see a castle, didnīt go inside, but instead back to the hostel to get showers so that we could go eat. We did that, had a horrible waiter who wouldnīt give me my canoli for dessert, we had to leave wihtout it in order to make it to the opera. That turned out to be pretty cool actually so I didnt mind going, then we went and met up with the tourguides from the Vatican, they were fun and cute haha so you canīt blame us. Then we went to bed.

Saturday
We woke up, had pancakes (mmmm first time since being in Europe, they donīt eat them over here) went shopping, but I disappointingly didnīt buy what I wanted which was a necklace. Headed back, got our stuff from hte hostel, got to the airport, got our flight to Milan. Ha, we got to Milan at 6. We took a nap, found some dinner, found some dessert, played some cards, tried talking to some Americans we found, tried to nap - usually htat didnīt work because the guards kept waking everyone up, were kicked out of the main airport because it closed and moved to a big open room thing across the street where we played more cards, napped, stared into space, we then moved back into the main part where we tried to sleep, but mostly stared into space. We left there at 7 am and I got back to my house at 10 here in Sevilla. I slept, ate, attempted to do work but failed miserably, typed up the entire version of the trip, and ate some more.

It was a great trip. I hope when I come back people see a difference in how patient I am with people, because I think I am more now. Except when theyīre shoving roses, flyers, and cheap bracelets in my face then I get mad.

I packed horribly for the weather, and it was REALLY cold there, had it not been so cold we wouldīve wandered through Milan during those 13 hours but it was too cold and we were too tired. But while in Rome I wore 6 shirts and my jacket - I was still chilly. Next time I go somewhere Iīm not going to trust what other people say the weather will be like. Oh no, never again haha

Rome was huge, I really liked it, it defintely had more of a big city feel that Sevilla which I liked. But right now Iīm really tired and need to go do the work I didnīt do yesterday. SUPER!
