So this weekend I headed out with 14 other exchange students to Canakkale, to see the ancient ruins of Troy and the Galipoli Peninsula. We headed out bright and early Saturday morning for a 6-hr drive along the north shore of the Sea of Marmara. Upon arrival in Canakkale, we met up with our guide, got settled in our hotel, and headed out to Troy. However, I had some sort of stomach ailment again, and was sicker than a dog the whole time. Due to this, my pictures are a little lacking, but Chrissie made me feel better with our mission of the "creeper photos" (self-explanitory, I assure you...) After a very windy and very cold day in Troy, I skipped the dinner in favor of sleeping.... The next day, I was feeling much better, and an excellent breakfast hepled greatly. We headed back over the Dardanelles to the Galipoli Peninsula to check out all the battlefields and monuments from WWI. The Turks had a great victory here, holding off the British advance. However, they were still defeated in the end, but this victory put Mustafa Kemal in the public eye, to later join his people together and form the Turkish Rebublic, under the name of Ataturk. (VERY abbreviated story there, but it's very interesting... look into it more if you have any interest...) More pup-pup photos and creeper faces during the sunny, but cold and windy day next to the Agean Sea. A long day, with many stops during touring, and then lunch, and heading for another 6-hr drive back to Istanbul.
