Jess and I caught the night-bus from London which was long and uncomfortable. When we arrived in Edinburgh in the wee hours of the morning Will met us and took us through the city to his place for breakfast and beer (Boags of all things) . Jess and I were still pretty buggered from the busride up so we didn't really do much for most of the day until the late afternoon when we went for a bit of a hike around the town. As the Edinburgh fringe festival was on all the streets were packed with performers, buskers, stalls, and tourists. We strolled up to the castle for a squiz and were lucky enough to score some tickets to the sold out Military Tattoo that was on that night. On a quixotic whim of optimism Jess tried to get some info regarding tickets from a security guard who pointed her in the direction of a Japanese tour leader who only moments earlier had asked that very security guard where she could unload a couple of erroneous tickets. Jess ran after her and reappeared a minute later with two tickets at cost price! Usually tickets to the tattoo are sold out months before the performance so it really was an incredible score. That night we went to the show to find we had some of the best seats in the entire place and were treated to an awesome performance. I have to admit that its not really my kind of thing but the masses of pipes and drums looked and sounded incredible with Edinburgh Castle as a backdrop. After the performance we headed back to Wil and co's place for a fairly massive party- they had recently moved in and we happened to be there on the night of their housewarming. I think half of Scotland showed up coz their tiny apartment was absolutely packed to the rafters with people dressed like fruit and vegetables ( the theme for the night). A fun and hazy night of drunken antics ensued... Have you every seen broccoli snogging a pineapple? Funny, funny stuff! The next day was strictly recovery and the day after that Jess and I went to Edinburgh castle for a tour and a proper look around the town.
Our Scottish weekend was sadly short but non the less sweet. We had learned heaps about the city and soaked in lots of the culture. The one thing I will regret forever was not having my picture took with that William Wallace lookalike!
