After lunch, since we were already so close, we drove to the village of Ciciurul-Mare where Moshu & Moshica both came from. We managed again to find the cemetery in town and began trekking up and down the rows, hoping to find some Axenty or Ungurean relatives. But the place was just so huge and more than 90% of the markers were all written in Ukrainian. Not like the Romanian villages we had been to earlier in the day. But with a small stroke of luck, I went through some trees and found four graves lying side-by-side that were all Axentys. The Ukrainian spelling (using Cyralic letters) was Akcentei. I found an Ilie Acsentie, Vasilie Acsentie, Nistru Acsenti and his wife Licheria. But I wasn’t as lucky as Karen to find anyone living, wandering around to ask questions of, so I made it quickly through the cemetery and figured I could always come back some other time when I wouldn’t be holding the rest of them from their preplanned day.
