It never gets old

So this weekend I went to Santorini. I went there last summer, but it was still just as stunning and amazing this time. It was sad that we were only there for two days though.

So on Thursday night, Sabrina and I, and about 40 other CYA students (the reason so many were going was because this was our last long weekend before it might get cold, and it's too far away to be worth it for only a 2 day weekend), took the night ferry to Santorini. Unfortunately, we got there too late to grab good comfy seats, so we got stuck with uncomfortable airplane seats, so I ended up sleeping on the floor that night. So in all I think I got 3 hours or so of rest. On a 9 hour ferry ride. I also didn't appreciate the rocking motion of the boat, but that's alright. Anyway, so we arrived around 7 AM on Friday morning, and there was a dozen or so of us staying at a hotel recommended to us by CYA. It was in Akrotiri, which unfortunately didn't have much in ways of attractions, seeing as the archaeological site is closed. But the hotel was really nice, with large rooms and comfy beds, and CONTINUOUS HOT WATER (not the case in our apartments), and the family who ran it was also very nice.

So that day, Sabrina and I decided to go explore the town of Fira. Umm...I guess there isn't really much to say about that, actually. You really have to see the place. I actually didn't take many pictures, since I took so many last summer. But it was still really awesome. The only problem is, with the lack of sleep and getting so much sun, I really felt like crap at night. We were going to go clubbing but by 1 AM, I was pretty miserable. I knew that if I didn't go home, I would be sick the next day, and considering I just got over a cold, that wasn't appealing at all. So I went home and slept for 8 hours, which was glorious.

The next day, we were lazy for a while and then we went to Perissa. That was where most of the CYA group was staying. It had black sand beaches. Mostly we were just walking along the beach, and at one point I stopped and was just enjoying the feel of some really nice, soft sand beneath my feet, when I heard "yia sou Marianna." I panicked and thought "Oh no. Some Greek dude I met on another island is now here and knows my name. Or maybe it's a relative who happens to be here..." Actually it was just Rob, and his friend Rich(ard). So then the 4 of us just hung out on the beach, and it was really nice. The water was just the perfect temperature, as long as you kept swimming.

Anyway, then Sabrina and I went to Oia to watch the sunset.
Which SUCKED.
So that was a big disappointment.
And then we went back to the hotel, at first in order to get ready to go out. Because the day before, I had bought this awesome new dress and new shoes which I was (and still am) soooo excited to wear. But then we decided we were tired, and we had to get up really early in the morning, so...we stayed in our room. Which is ok, because it was like 11 at that point. Around 11:30 I got a phone call from Rob, and apparently their bus had backed into something and they were stuck in the middle of nowhere. Yup, definitely sounds a bit familiar (the Thanksgiving Portland-->WW bus, anyone?), so I certainly sympathized.

And yesterday we took a 10 hour ferry ride back. Where we got good seats this time and I slept very well when I actually did take a nap.

Yeah. I guess that isn't exactly very exciting. But it was still a fun weekend, and I was very sad to leave. Especially considering I came back to studying for a Greek quiz....blah.
