On this day I, along with some friends, went to the local game park to eat lunch and see some animals while we were at it. We started the day at 10:00 and started the 15 click drive to the park called Mokalodi. Botswana is known for its awesome safari drives and even hunts sometimes. There are many game parks but we all happend to have a member ship for Mokalodi! lol!
So, we went and payed the 100 pula that it cost to have an all day thing. It was very nice and got to met the manager of the park. He is a Africaaner. I couldn't spell his name for the life of me so I'll just leave it to calling him the man. After having a good chat with him, we went for some mimosas (there is no drinking age that they follow here) or a little tea if you wanted. We all got into a jeep like car and started on our way.
The first thing we say where the elephants. They where HUGE! I had never seen an elephant up close and it was very intimadating. I felt sorry for the little bush men that had to stand up to those in the old days (not to long ago. Botswanan just became indapendant int he 60's). Elephants can be very dangerous if they are startled. But we all stayed inside and didn't make any sudden movements.
We went to the cheetas next (there was quite a drive to and fro so we also saw other things). It was the coolest thing i have ever seen! It was really sad because they were in a cage and weren't allowed to run free. Of course if they did, then ther would be less animals than there are now!
With the good weather (it was summer because of the southern hemisphere thing), we saw alot of animals at the watering hole, including the hippo! They are so cute! But you never realize how big they are until they are up close. We ate a wonderful lunch with drinks on the house and after that we went on the way back to the main gate (stilla 30 mintue drive) we saw the giraffes!! They where beautiful! I never knew that they could be so huge. There were about 4 or 5 of them. The buck was darker than the others and we asked our tour guide why. He said that the older a giraffe gets, the darker it becomes. I thought that was cool. Then we saw some little warthogs and other DLT's (deer like things. I don't know the proper names for them beause there are so many different kinds!).
We also say the cutest bird called the huppo I think you spell it. It has an organge breast and shoulders with it seems to be a zebra striped back end. It has a tuffed of feathers on tops! Its really cute!
Then we went home.
