On Saturday I got an early morning call saying I should come down and meet my friends to go to the honey exhibition. It was quite the interesting affair. They had closed off one of the main roads in town and each region brought examples of their best honey and melons for display and tasting. Several of the regions also had other fruits and vegetables on display as well. Along with the creative displays of fruits and vegetables several of the regions had examples of national local handicrafts. Some even had musicians and dancers in local costumes there to entertain people as they passed by. My friends that had invited me asked if we ever had anything like this in the states. I got to tell them about our great Cherry Festival in Traverse City and I also told them about our state and county fairs. The only sad part of the festival was that they torn it down really early. Basically, once the state and local officials went through the festival… they started tearing it all down. It was a bit sad because it was technically supposed to go all day… but I guess the whole purpose of the fair was to put on a good face for the officials, once that was done it was time to tear down….
