Arrived into Sarajevo at 04:30, perfect timing when you don't know where your hostel is, you have no idea what the currency is and there is no public transport! Not a problem now for the well trained traveller smythe! well maybe not, was sat munching on a delicious breckfast of hard bacon bread sticks and a chilli cheese spread (divine!), when a cab driver pulls up, waffling some shit at me! He says he will take me to the hostel before i know it, my bags are in the car and i'm away, at this point i try to explain in pidgeon english that i only have Croatian currency, face of thunder i get in return so i pull over at cash machine to sort it out! to his pleasure i wip a massive note out of the machine he has steam coming out of his ears as we have to mission around city looking for some change at 5 in the morning, agreeing a fee before stepping in the cab... always thinking!
Anyway arrived at hostel to find the most insecure hostel of all time, the reception is away from the dorm and any tom, dick and Harry can walk in, as i was to later find out! Made myself a bed, which i thought was a bit cheeky and got some kip.
Woke up and went on a mission around the city with two young Irish girls called Jessica and Rachel, went round an advertisment exhibition and walked round some markets, it was bloody hot, well into the 30's i presume! I can't really believe how touristy Sarajevo actually is, was expecting to be the only brit in town but as with most countries half of Australia seems to be here!
City is very clean, like most citys the old town is beautiful, you can still see remains of the siege quite clearly but it looks like it is now all water under the bridge!
At 4pm went to watch the craziest football match i have ever been to in my whole life, Sarajevo vs Mostar, must have been 8000 fans there, obviously more than i'm used too when watching Grimsby but the atmosphere was crazy! 1 guy conducting all the chants all 90 mins, not watching a sniff of the game! When they went one nil up it was the most mental celebrations i've ever seen, there must have been 30 flares going off and i was stuck right in the middle of it, bit pissed off really as i got a bottle of water rejected at the gate!
Game finished 1 a piece, was a very bad standard, but great entertainment!
Got back to hostel and listened to I=Pod, Brook had some phat dance tunes on it so was loving a piece, went out for a beer but soon got back to the hostel due to drunkenness and was then up till 7 drinking and listening to tunes with a group of aussies, an austrian and an Italian... very good banter! great night and a great day!
