So after leaving Steve in Managua, I cried a bit and then decided I need to move on with my life. I hopped on a bus up to the town of Leon where I had heard that you can surf a volcano. Arriving in town, there were fireworks and what looked like anti-aircraft fire going on everywhere. A day after bull running, I found myself in the middle of the big festival in this town. Found the hostel, met some people, and then hit the streets, where kids were running around trick-or-treating, but as part of a religous holiday.
Turns out, you actually sit down and sort of toboggan down the mountain for volcano boarding, but it was still pretty cool. There were free t-shirts for the first down, the best wipeout, and best injury. The volcanos pretty active but we were reassured to learn that there's a 20 minute grace period between any earthquake and the volcano erupting. It takes about 40 minutes to climb up and 40 seconds to ride down. And that concludes volcano boarding.
