Lesson #6: A Father With His Son

2006-08-12, Wasilla, United States

Alaska!!!! What a isolated place. I've always felt a bit seperated from the world everytime I've been here. More so than all the countries I've been to. I got here on the 6th of August and it's cold. I came up here to spend time with my son Daniel. As usual I was nervous to see him. It's been a couple months & I always worry he won't remember who I am.

So the other day I got to see him for the first time in 6-7 months. Wow!!!! He's such a beautiful boy. I've missed him so much. And to see how much he's changed is unbelievable. He's so big. When I saw him I was chillin' at Best Buy, in my Aunt's mini-van (yesssss), waiting for Daniel and his mom. When they pulled up I could see Daniel's little head peaking about the back-passenger window, suckin' on a McDonald's straw. It was to funny. His beady little eyes lookin' out the window. I saw his mom mouth the words, "Daniel who's that?" That's when he saw me.

His eyes got huge, and his smile bigger. I saw him yell, "DAD"!!!! It was awesome. I wipped the door open and we both started laughing. First thing I did was, unbuckle his seat-belt and pick him up. WHAT AN OX!!!! He is huge. Tall that is. Then I gave him a big kiss, taking away some of the drool that covered his chin from sucking on that McDonalds straw. It was an awesome reunion. We just chilled that day. We went to the mall, and he showed me the airplane store he loves to go in. And then to his daycare to show me where he spends his days. There we played around with his friends until all the little kids got to be too much. And by that time, mom was heading over to pick him up.

On the way home I thought about our day, and it hit me. I spent a good portion of my life following my own desires. My own will. Living for myself. Not coming to God for anything. Nothing! In fact I turned away from God at every opportunity. I aloud our world and it's system be my father. It taught me what to think. How I should act. What I should like. And what I should be doing. It was all about self. Living for me. Until the day my true Father called my back. Once that happened, I really got a taste of my real Father. Who He was. What He's like. What He's done for me. His love for me as His son.

The thing I heard driving home that day was, "Geoff. My children will always know who their real Father is. Just like Daniel knew who you were today. He knew you were "DAD". Someone just has to show them."

Yeah Daniel and I had been away from each other for some time, but he knew who I was. And yeah I had to tell Him that day what was right and not right as we hung out. But we still had a blast. I remember when I gave my life to God, He had to do that too. But it didn't happen in one day. I'm still learning, just as Daniel is learning.

"My childredn will always know who their real Father is."
I had that revalation one day. It was because someone took the time to show me who He was.
