heey everybody!
now im here in ghana, been here a bit over a week and i already feel like home! it reminds me of latinamerika and india... I had a short day in accra, the capital, then they transferd us to Cape Coast where i will stay and study for one semester. its a very nice town, just by the coast, the beach is just five minutes walk from the campus wherre i stay, but beacuase its the rainy season the ocean is very ruff, so have to wait one two months to swim there... but there is more calm beaches 10-15 minutes away and there is also a national park just few minutes away, so im very good located =)
last week it was only orientation in school, but me and vivi (friend and classmate from sweden) skipped the most of it, cause it was only some info for freshers and people who never studied in the uni. But we spent alot time setteling down, and looking for courses, whent to the beach one day and around in cape coast..
if i could give a award to the friendliest people in the world, i would give it to the ghanians! they are so nice, honest and always smile =) in the big cities like kumasi and accra its more hasseling, but comparing to other countries its nothing! it feels great that you can walk in the markets and everywhere and feel so free. the food is alright, but im suprised that they have chinese and even lebanese food =) everybody thinks me and vivi are twins, and that we have a black parent cause we are not really white hehe
this weekend we took the tro-tro, the local transport, to Kumasi, the capital of the ashanti kingdom.. a big city with a huge market =) from there we went to Lake Bosomtwui, soooo nice to come out to the nature... it was beautiful, we got to know i very nice guy called Yau, he is a guide, so he took us on a trekking around the lake for two days, it was amazing! we trekked 45 km and passed 20 farming and fishing villages, the first day we walked for over 10 hours... the kids where sooo happy to see us, and jumped al around me when i took up my camera.. in the first village we got to know a fetish/medecine woman, it was intresting.. this wasnt anything planed, so didnt have the right clothes with me, i trekked in my skirt hehe it was nice when we finally took a bath in the beautiful lake. we spent a night in a village, the chief's son had a welcome prayer for us, and they cooked local food.. at night they played drums and we had a danceperformance for the whole village, they got sooo happy! a great memory for us and them!they wanted us to stay there, but we had to go...
people are very spiritual here, how about "messiah motors", "glory oil" (gas station), "GOD cares beauty salon" and so on...and even thou the most people are christians, u meet muslims and people with tradiitional religions, im glad to see a church and just by it a mosque, and no conflicts, people live peacefully togheter =)
this week is registration, but we are done, tomorrow we are travelling north, im exited! school starts next week, will be very busy so glad that i have some time exploring the country..
