taking a rest from surfing we decided to head to Granada, which is just an hour away from the airport where i have to fly out of tomorrow. a pleasant little colonial town, but today was not like most other days in Granada... there was a sense of excitement in the air. the streets were crowded with people... although it being a Sunday, this was as expected. but still... something was not quite right.

Our first clue was the odd number of people walking around in the noon heat with beers in hand. After asking a few passersby, we realized that we had hit the jackpot. The one day that we happen to be in Granada, Nicaragua, just so happens to be their annual festival de torros. read: RUNNING OF THE BULLS, Nica style!!

now given that between me and Andrew, I have the more steady hands and a natural photography gift, I offer to document Andrew´s flight from the bulls from the sidelines. Andrew quickly agrees, pointing out that it would be irresponsible for us both to run with the bulls, and put our mother through unnecessary anguish.

while i staked out my secure location behind a metal railing, Andrew joined the throngs of drunken Nicaraguans, eagerly anticipating the big moment. Having done a series of lunges and knee bends, Andrew was ready.

in the ensuing melée, which I attempted to film, Andrew passed by in the crowd. we were separated for about 40 minutes. having never seen him run by, I could only assume that he was in the back of the single ambulance that made its way down the street after the parade.

however, Andrew made it through unscathed. looking back on the moment after all the excitement had died down, I realized that I had counted a grand total of five bulls pass by where I stood. thousands of people and 5 bulls. yep, quite the heroic feat. yet Andrew was happy, as this has been a boyhood dream of his. definately the only Whitey in the crowd. if there were a Diabetic Olympics... he´d be captain of the team!

anyways, that should be all the adventure i have lined up for myself as I fly back to Mexico tomorrow afternoon. still planning out the best way to sneak the most rum back to Canada... hopefully Andrew can continue our adventures solo style. i trust they should be highly entertaining, as his goodnatured grin invites all sort of wierdo´s to take their shot at taking advantage of him.
