Once we drive to Naples this morning, we are off to Florence via Eurorail.
We spent yesterday driving to and touring Pompei, the drive this morning wasn¡¦t too bad until we arrived in the town of Pompei. Navigation to the historical site was some what nerve racking, as there are very few signs that direct you to the site and there are no signs that tell you that in order to get to the historical site itself, you must drive down a series of side streets that are not labeled at all. (Thanks to a very nice Italian Pump Jockey for showing us the way, twice) We eventually we made it to the ¡¥attraction¡¦ and managed to secure a ¡¥tour guide¡¦. This, um, ¡¥gentleman¡¦ we would consider an arrogant Italian with NO couth what-so-ever. (I am being censored by Jen right now) Let me just say this,,, the 30 Euros we paid him should have gone to the taxi driver that stuck it to us in Rome instead, it would be a better cause. But, having said that and got it off my chest, the ruins of Pompei were awesome; the early settlement really was advanced for its day. The early Pompei was quite a center of trade, it even had fast food restaurants and a brothel. Of course this is all before ¡¥THE BIG ONE¡¦ hit, when Mount Vesuvius erupted August 24th in the year 79AD. (This is why we are getting while the getting is good) After a nice day outing, with Jen proclaiming ¡§We shouldn¡¦t rent any more cars and we should leave the driving to someone else¡¨ we drove (uneventfully) back to our Hotel in Sorrento. Once we arrived back, we went into town again to ¡¥re-take the pictures that Jen took yesterday because ¡§SOMEONE¡¨ deleted the pictures she took with out ensuring they were downloaded onto the computer. (I certainly don¡¦t know who that could have been ƒº) Jen and I enjoyed a nice dinner without Jordan, followed by said picture taking. Well that pretty much sums up today, I¡¦m looking forward to the drive into Naples tomorrow to return the car,,,,,,NOT.
